If you’re a fan of historical fiction with a dash of romance and loads of drama, A Good Woman by Danielle Steel might just be your next go-to read. This book takes you back to the early 1900s, right before the Titanic sinks (yep, there’s a Titanic moment!), and follows the life of Annabelle Worthington, a young woman from a wealthy New York family.
Annabelle starts off living a pretty charmed life—she’s got it all: wealth, family, and a bright future. But of course, in true Danielle Steel fashion, everything unravels. After the Titanic tragedy and some major personal heartbreak, Annabelle’s world flips upside down. She decides to take control of her life and becomes a doctor, which for a woman in that era is a HUGE deal. And I have to say, her journey is both inspiring and filled with obstacles that had me rooting for her the entire time.
What I loved about this book is how Steel really paints a vivid picture of what it was like to live during that time period. You feel Annabelle’s struggles, whether it’s dealing with society’s expectations or just trying to rebuild her life from scratch. There’s a real theme of resilience throughout the book, which gives it a lot of heart.
That said, some parts are pretty heavy—there’s a lot of tragedy in Annabelle’s life, and some moments can feel a bit melodramatic (in true Danielle Steel style). But, if you’re in the mood for a story about personal growth, second chances, and the strength of the human spirit, this one hits all the right notes.
Also, Steel fans will recognize her signature fast-paced, easy-to-read style. It’s one of those books you can devour in a weekend!
So, if you love historical settings, strong female characters, and a plot with plenty of emotional ups and downs, A Good Woman will definitely pull you in. Annabelle’s story is one of survival and finding purpose, and it’s a reminder that even in the darkest times, there’s always a chance for a fresh start.
