Op ’n stil aand, in ’n herehuis langs ’n meer, dans ’n jong vrou in ’n verruklike rooi aandrok met haar werkgewer, Arthur Addington – befoeterde, eens beroemde Amerikaanse draaiboekskrywer en onbeminde eienaar van die Addington-landgoed.
Nooit sou Arthur, worstelend met skrywersblok en wroegend oor die dood van sy vrou en kind, kon raai dat sy stralende dansmaat soveel geheime ronddra nie. Dat Anabella Maria Bennett, kortom Ben, g’n huishoudster is nie, maar ’n joernalis en ’n sendelingdogter uit Afrika. Dat hy haar lank gelede dáár ontmoet het . . .
